As soon has Dire Dawa was founded ,Ato Mersha, the governor of Gildessa came Dire Dawa to establish his center where the palace is situated today, In 1928 at two story palace with a style of Arabic influence was built on this historic place.Around 1955 it was redecorated, a floor was added the surrounding gardens were improved. During a tour in August 1960 the Emperor named his Imperial Palace with the new name Yeselam Adarash (Hall of Peace). The Emperor used to spend part of the rainy season in Dire Dawa every year.
